09. MAP STORES x MACHETE | Ten Questions

Designer and Art History graduate Jennifer J Matchette created her jewellery brand Machete over two years ago. A new label that is not only celebrated for its chic style (featuring in publications across the world such as Vogue and Harpers Bazaar) but is also revered for its ethical values.

The Machete aesthetic is elegant, unique and effortless, and their Italian tortoise shell acetate is of course high quality, but also consciously natural, non-petroleum based and renewable. Committed to being ecologically and environmentally responsible, Jennifer and her team, work to reduce our impact on the environment across their business,

At Map Stores, we love the Machete ethos and products so much that we wanted to find out more about the person who started it all, simply because she could find quite the right shade of tortoise shell jewellery - our kind of woman! If you want something done properly, do it yourself...

What has brought you to where you currently are in your life?

Specifically my husband, Cale. He has been my sole supporter and helped nurture my creativity for years.

Who or what influences you and why?

Clare Vivier & Kathleen Whitaker are two creatives that I absolutely worship.

When you are not working where will we find you?

When I’m not working, you can find me spending time with my husband Cale & our children.

What is your all-time favourite trend?

What inspires you about where you live?

Describe your dream home.

Anything that opens up to a pool and large yard with soft grass. We love spending family time outdoors with our kids.

When working on a new project, how do you overcome your fears or challenges?

Knowing that not everything is going to be a hit. It’s ok to have some misses - that is how amazing things are made!

What do you want to accomplish in the coming years?

In the coming years, I’d love to expand Machete’s product offerings and continue striving towards making our brand as earth friendly as possible.

If you could collaborate with anyone, who would it be?

Clare Vivier, of course!

What advice would you give to your younger self?

To take risks sooner.

(Map Stores couldn't agree more!!)

Thank you so much Jennifer for taking the time to answer our questions and letting us know a little more about you and your approach to life.

Welcome to the Map Stores Collective, please keep doing what you're doing - we love it x
