04. Colour Key | Addicted, Back in Black

Black is modest and arrogant at the same time.

Black is lazy and easy - but mysterious.

But above all black says this: 'I don't bother you - don't bother me.

Black is the darkest colour, an achromatic colour, which literally means it is without hue. It has the highest contrast with white and it revolutionised womens fashion when in 1926 Coco Chanel famously said in Vogue that "A woman needs just three things: a black dress, a black sweater, and, on her arm, a man she loves.

Yves Saint Laurent also once said of the colour that "black is the liaison which connects art and fashion.'

So, three of the worlds most creative and influential designers of all time cannot be wrong and I know I certainly agree... 100% - I am addicted to black.

Black creates a dramatically elegant statement and generates spectacular volume and a contrast look to a space.

For those of us that are addicted to black, this is easy, but for those of you that are little more cautious... it's all about the matte black accessories. Clean and explicit lines are created with a sophisticated subtlety.

Separately, black and gold create theatre and elegance. Together, black and gold are magical. One of the most complimentary combinations, powerful and luxurious.

Black and white is the combination that has traditionally reigned supreme. To keep it chic, with a minimal aesthetic, make sure you mix textures, shapes and fabrics.
