"When you cook a lot, you want to have a lot of open shelves, like you can with String."
Michelin Star Chef | Karim Khouani

Interior Design Stylist | Lott

I come from the south of France and grew up in Marseille which is full of scents from the wonderful boulangeries and cheese stores. The interest in food was there from a very early age. My mother is from Italy, and she always cooked fantastic food. In Italy food is culture and family recipes are serious secrets. Going shopping with mom, or dad, who is from Morocco, taught me about quality, flavour, spices, and seasonal produce.

When you cook a lot, you want to have a lot of open shelves, like you can with String. You don’t want too many doors and cabinets. There is no need, everything on the shelves is used almost every day. And you want everything within reach. Hooks, hanger racks, and rods are a really good way to keep utensils and pans at the ready. Metal shelves are hardy and give the kitchen a nice rustic look. What I really like about String are the cork accessories such as the underlays, where you can put a hot pan to cool down - and of course the bottle tray for the wine!

“A home office shouldn't look as if you've brought home furniture from work, it needs to have character. Of course it has to be functional, but with an equal amount of personality."

String Furniture Designers | Anna von Schewen and Björn Dahlström

The String System is designed to be not only flexible but also aesthetically appealing – an excellent choice for a workplace in the home. It's all connected with function and how to create flexible configurations that work in different room environments. As String takes up so little floor space, there is no need to set aside an entire room to make a functioning work area.

You can easily make use of any leftover space in a hallway or an attic. Even a wardrobe can be transformed into a smart workplace. If you already have a String shelf in your bedroom or living room, you can also add sections from the Works range. Put in a folding table, or a work desk with a drawer, a cabinet and a few organisers, and you have a complete, functional workplace with specific functions, while maintaining the cosiness of home.

For anyone thinking about how to create attractive interiors from functional storage, Lotta has a handy tip: “Many people forget to adapt the storage to the interior design. You can make a nice pattern or work with colours and complementary colours. Then it becomes something that not only helps to keep things in order, but is also truly decorative”.

When furnishing a kids’ room storage is key. But to make that key look modern and effortless, some inspirational tips and tricks might come in handy. Make sure that the shelving combination has hidden storage compartments at ground level. You will thank yourself for installing these since they make it possible for your child to clean and keep the room tidy on their own.

Encouraging cleaning and making it part of your child’s everyday routine will make everyone a bit happier. If your child does not have the same folding skills or way of organising their stuff as you prefer, drawers or cabinets will be your saviour. Therefore, I always add cabinets with sliding doors or chest of drawers at the bottom of the shelving solution.

Lotta's top three tips

1. Drawers or cabinets at ground level

2. Colour coordinate

3. Metal shelf for accessories
